Help CompactRF to Build the Next Generation

Fundraising is one of those parts of Compact’s work that is largely unseen. We naturally enjoy sharing photographs of a new well producing clean water, farmers putting their training into practice, or children benefiting from a healthier community. But behind every one of those photographs is another story—the ongoing challenge of finding the funding that makes the work possible.

Fundraising requires persistence, patience and, sometimes, a fairly thick skin! We research foundations, prepare applications, write letters, make introductions and follow up on previous conversations. Some approaches result in wonderful new relationships, some receive a polite “not at this time,” and many receive no response at all.

This year, Compact has distributed over 460 letters to foundations and potential supporters. Everyone has been individually hand-signed, dated and addressed. That represents a considerable investment of time, but we believe the personal touch matters. We are not simply looking for donations; we are looking to build relationships with people who share our desire to see rural communities in Malawi become healthier, stronger and increasingly self-reliant.

So, 460 letters have gone out and the seed sown in faith. Where will they lead? We simply don’t know!

What we do know is that previous relationships have often begun with one letter, one conversation or one introduction. So we keep knocking on doors, keep sharing the vision and keep trusting that God will bring the right partnerships to develop. And now—we wait expectantly!

October Visit

From 11–17 October, CRF President Kevin Jones will undertake a field visit in Malawi to follow up on progress outlined in the August Operations Report. The visit will include reviewing implementation of the Malilika-Isaac Water System, meeting community representatives and members of the Water Users Association, and assessing preparations for long-term community management of the system.

Kevin will also visit Compact-supported communities to observe agricultural activities, farmer participation and evidence of sustainable soil-management. Particular attention will be given to progress since the August field monitoring, community ownership and opportunities for wider farmer-to-farmer learning. The visit will also include site visits to schools in preparation of the next phase of CRF Malawi programme.
