As The ChariTree Foundation marked its 20th anniversary on Earth Day, the Canadian charity chose action over celebration by launching a global initiative to support children on the front lines of the climate crisis in Malawi. The Bowen Island based organization announced a $20,000 donation to Compact to help initiate a new environmental education and tree-planting program, reinforcing its two decade commitment to empowering youth through nature.
Andrea Koehle Jones, founder of the foundation, emphasized that while the urgency of climate change continues to intensify, it is often overshadowed by competing global concerns. She noted that far more must be done to protect vulnerable children and that directing resources to communities most affected is both timely and necessary.
The initiative comes at a critical moment for Malawi, where increasingly erratic weather patterns, depleted soils, and limited access to sustainable resources are placing growing pressure on rural communities and their long-term resilience.
Compact Resource Foundation would like to express its sincere gratitude for this generous contribution, noting that such support not only advances vital tree-planting efforts but also enables the development of an environmental education program for children.

Nutrition Training
In May 2026, Patrick Singoyi delivered nutrition, hygiene, and sanitation training in Aaron Village on behalf of Compact Resource Foundation, aiming to strengthen long-term health and reduce malnutrition. The program focused on basic nutrition, food preparation, preservation, hygiene, and dietary diversification, alongside practical cooking demonstrations using locally available foods.
Participants learned to prepare nutrient-rich breakfasts, one-pot meals, complementary foods, snacks, and seasonal dishes designed to improve dietary variety while saving time and fuel. The training motivated strong community engagement, with participants committed to sharing knowledge across Aaron Village. We are grateful to Patrick for the 5 days he gives voluntarily to this work.
